Our Beliefs

Story Church is a non-denominational Christian church.  Our history is out of the Restoration Movement, a movement in the early 1800s that had two main focuses - getting back to the main basics of the early Christians in the book of Acts, and bringing unity to the church.  The desire was to get rid of all the manmade ideals that caused separation between differing churches.  While human nature has made it so that things have not always worked out that way, the goal of Story Church is to continue seeking those priorities.  We do our best to follow the famous phrase: "In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity."  Below are our beliefs about what we consider the essentials.

GOD

God is the creator and ruler of everything.  He has existed eternally as one being in three parts: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

JESUS

Jesus is the Son of God, equal and united with the Father and the Holy Spirit.  Jesus lived a sinless human life, and died on the cross as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.  He rose from the dead three days later to display His power over sin and death, and is currently in heaven preparing for His return as our mighty King.

The HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is equal and united with the Father and the Son.  He is present in the world to help show people their need for Jesus and to help believers by living inside of them.  To those who are saved He gives direction and comfort.  He also provides spiritual gifts to believers for the instruction and service of those around them and helps them understand the Bible.

HUMANKIND

All people are created in the image of God.  Everyone has the ability to do good, but we also have a natural attitude of disobedience towards God, called "sin."  That sin separates us from God, and it causes many problems in our lives.

SALVATION

We cannot do enough good to make up for our sin.  Salvation is a free gift of God, but we must choose whether to accept it.  The removal of punishment for sin only comes through faith in Jesus and can be had by anyone who accepts Him as their Savior and Lord.  That faith is expressed through repentance of sin and baptism through immersion.

The BIBLE

The Bible is the Word of God - written by human authors with His supernatural guidance.  Because it was Inspired by God, it is truth without error.  The Bible was given to people to show God's love and message, and is the final authority for Christian beliefs and as a guide for life.
